New ENERGY STAR® Requirements Coming Jan.1 in Northern Climate Zone
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released the final ENERGY STAR Version 6.0 Residential Windows, Doors, and Skylights Specification for the Northern Zone detailing the prescriptive and equivalent energy performance criteria for windows.
These new requirements take effect January 1, 2016. Originally, the EPA intended to implement these requirements last January, but granted an extension until 2016 to provide window manufacturers more time to develop cost-effective, qualifying windows.
When this goes into effect, homeowners in the Northern Climate Zone will attain improved energy performance under ENERGY STAR qualifications.
We Have Your ENERGY STAR Northern Zone Solution!
For years, Alside has offered industry-leading performance with such products as Sheffield and UltraMaxx. And with the introduction of Mezzo in 2014, Alside offers you a variety of window lines that already meet the new 2016 requirements.
But the good news is getting even better! Beginning January 1, 2016, nearly every Alside Window and Patio Door will be available with a variety of ClimaTech® insulated glass packages to meet ENERGY STAR performance requirements in all four U.S. Climate Zones.
For Alside Windows and Patio Doors that do not qualify today, we are introducing a new glass package option called ClimaTech SF (Surface Four) on those select models. ClimaTech SF is a fourth-surface Low-E used in conjunction with our standard Low-E glass package.
To qualify for ENERGY STAR, windows shall have NFRC-certified U-Factor and, where applicable, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings at levels which meet or exceed the minimum qualification criteria specified in the table below.
