AMI Window Production – Impact of Hurricane Matthew

October 11, 2016

We hope you and your families remain safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, which has impacted a large portion of the Southeastern United States.  Although no longer hurricane status, the storm continues to cause problems including flash flooding.  Associated Materials (AMI) operates several facilities in the affected areas and we would like to provide you with a status of our operations.

We are experiencing disruptions in production and service at our Kinston, North Carolina Window Plant:

Plant Status

  • The Kinston plant has not experienced any damage; however, due to area flooding and road conditions employees in some surrounding areas have limited access in reaching the facility.
  • Deliveries in and out of the plant are currently difficult.

Customer Service and Deliveries

  • We are steadfastly working to minimize any delays in production and service.
  • With many customers also experiencing storm challenges, AMI teams are individually contacting customers to arrange ship dates and to coordinate deliveries.
  • Fortunately, with our consistent window platforms and ISO certification driving standardization across all AMI east coast manufacturing plants, we are able to move production to our facilities in Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Cedar Rapids, IA to help alleviate Kinston production delays.
  • Contact AMI Customer Service at 866-257-4336 with any questions.

Additionally, Alside/Revere Supply Centers in Fayetteville and Wilmington, North Carolina are experiencing interruptions in power and/or phone service.  While both locations are open and operational, the situation remains dynamic. For questions contact: Fayetteville (910)426-0265 or (844)421-2672; and Wilmington (910)350-3611 or (800)218-3987.

Please be assured that all of us at AMI are doing everything possible to minimize service delays and fulfill your orders.  We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your understanding.  As always, thank you for your business and commitment to AMI.

Traditional to Trend – Setting: An Extensive Exterior Color Palette

Two tips that make color selection easy. If you like your home’s existing color scheme, there’s really no decision to make. But if you’re looking for a change, use the following two suggestions to guide your planning:

First use the color of your roof shingles as a starting point. For the most pleasing appearance, colors for shingles and siding should complement each other. Secondly, decide if you want a little or a lot of contrast between siding and trim. As a general rule, less contrast unifies a home’s architectural elements, while greater contrast emphasizes individual elements.

Alside Premium Vinyl Siding offers all the choices needed to give your home the exact look you want. Start with classic panel profiles and end with color-matched trim and accents. With Alside, all decisions lead to beautiful results.

New ENERGY STAR® Requirements Coming January 1 in the Northern Climate Zone

New ENERGY STAR® Requirements Coming Jan.1 in Northern Climate ZoneENE_crt_c

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released the final ENERGY STAR Version 6.0 Residential Windows, Doors, and Skylights Specification for the Northern Zone detailing the prescriptive and equivalent energy performance criteria for windows.

These new requirements take effect January 1, 2016.  Originally, the EPA intended to implement these requirements last January, but granted an extension until 2016 to provide window manufacturers more time to develop cost-effective, qualifying windows.

When this goes into effect, homeowners in the Northern Climate Zone will attain improved energy performance under ENERGY STAR qualifications.

We Have Your ENERGY STAR Northern Zone Solution!

For years, Alside has offered industry-leading performance with such products as Sheffield and UltraMaxx.  And with the introduction of Mezzo in 2014, Alside offers you a variety of window lines that already meet the new 2016 requirements.

But the good news is getting even better!  Beginning January 1, 2016, nearly every Alside Window and Patio Door will be available with a variety of ClimaTech® insulated glass packages to meet ENERGY STAR performance requirements in all four U.S. Climate Zones.

For Alside Windows and Patio Doors that do not qualify today, we are introducing a new glass package option called ClimaTech SF (Surface Four) on those select models.  ClimaTech SF is a fourth-surface Low-E used in conjunction with our standard Low-E glass package.

To qualify for ENERGY STAR, windows shall have NFRC-certified U-Factor and, where applicable, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings at levels which meet or exceed the minimum qualification criteria specified in the table below.

  ENERGY STAR Requirements for Windows

Northern Climate Zone Ratings Effective as of January 1, 2016

Climate Zone U-Factor SHGC
Northern ≤ 0.27 Any
North-Central ≤ 0.30 ≤ 0.40
South-Central ≤ 0.30 ≤ 0.25
Southern ≤ 0.40 ≤ 0.25

Contact your Alside Sales Representative for more information on qualifying products or to learn more about ENERGY STAR guidelines visit www.energystar.gov.

The How-To for Cleaning your Vinyl Windows

The How-To for Cleaning your Vinyl Windows

Mezzo Windows

Mezzo Windows

Label and tape adhesive should be removed by alcohol-based cleaners on small glass areas only. After this is removed, thoroughly wet the glass and rinse with plain water. Glass can be cleaned with regular or ammonia-based glass cleaners.

Vinyl (PVC) products can be cleaned with a solution of mild soap and water. For heavier cleaning tasks, the window manufacturer recommends commercially advertised household cleaners. Use any non-abrasive cleaner for tough jobs. Do not use solvents, paint removers or sharp objects to clean your windows and patio doors.

Condensation is caused by excess interior relative humidity in the home. It is your responsibility to control your home’s relative humidity. For more information, request a copy of Your Guide to Common Household Condensation.

If mildew is a problem in your area, use an appropriate cleaner or mildew controller found in your local store.

Painting or varnishing your window is not required and will void the warranty.

The tracks of the double-hung and sliding windows are exposed to the outdoor elements, which can contain abrasive elements such as dirt, leaves, sand, grease, soot, etc. If these elements are not removed, they can be ground into the vinyl tracks when the sashes are operated. A minimum semi-annual cleaning is recommended. These tracks can be cleaned with a small, stiff nylon brush, then wiped down with a soft cloth. If necessary, an occasional light coat of silicone spray lubricant on the balance shoe track of a double-hung, and the tracks of a sliding window, will help ease the operation without leaving an oily residue which can collect more abrasive elements.

Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for safe use of any chemical or cleaner. Any cleaning information suggested in this manual is only to assist you. The window manufacturer assumes no responsibility for results obtained which are dependent on the chemical solutions as prepared, and quantity and method of application.
